This assignment is optional. If you choose to complete it, it will replace a previous assignment with the lowest grade (as long as your score on this assignment is greater than your lowest grade).
Find an example of a poor data visualization. This example must come from a major news publication (e.g.ย the Toronto Star) or an academic publication (e.g., an article in the American Political Science Review or a book with an academic press).
Enter the data from the visualization in an Excel file. For example, if it is a bar graph, enter the height of each bar as a separate row. Or download the data if they are available for public download.
Replicate the visualization to make sure you entered the data correctly (using an Rmd file, so that you can knit it to an html).
Make a better visualization. Explain how you improved on the original visualization in at least three ways.
Submit (a) a picture of the original visualization, a citation, and a url (if possible); (b) the Excel file from 2; (3) the Rmd script you used; and (4) and the html you produced as a result.
